2 Questions about memory upgrade

Postby jolebole » Sat Dec 06, 2008 7:02 pm

1. I see that default memory that S10 uses is 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300). Can someone tell me if it can take DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) and on what freq will the memory operate after is installed ?

2. Can this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231164 fit inside the S10, considering that the memory module has a heat sink ?
Girls are like internet domain names, the ones I like are already taken. Well, you can still get one from a strange country :-)

I just got the new S10 large. I want to upgrade from 1gig of memory to 2 gig.

Can someone post the correct memory and where to purchase in the US.

If your looking for cheap I went with a 2GB stick by Kingston for $19.99 with free shipping at Newegg. Here's the link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134513 The free shipping takes a bit longer, but I prefer waiting for a more reputable brand of RAM.

Does anyone have a thought about memory from "Patriot"? I just went to Fry's Electronics and purchased the 2 gb upgrade *(my 2nd trip, they gave me 2 1gbs the 1st time and I didn't question it until I got home...whoops). I initially purchased "Corsair" but they just gave me the "Patriot" stuff and *(again, foolishly) I didn't notice it was an off brand until I got home.

Should I take it back before I open it and get a better known brand?

Thanks in advance~

patriot is actually a very highly rated brand of memory, and IMO better quality then the one you were originally going to purchase.

If it works, just use it.

oh, and itll run at 533 spec in the S10 even if its rated higher. the SPD table usually sets tighter latency timings if you get higher rated stuff and run it at lower speed, but memory latency reduction isn't much of a performance increaser.

I sort of like the mushkin the best but I went with the corsair even though it was a couple of bucks more because I didn't want to do the whole mail in rebate thing. By the time you pay for certified postage and waste your time, its pretty much a break even deal.
