I used an external usb DVD drive and the alternate install version of Ubuntu which allows you to target the installation to certain partitions and manipulate those partitions (since I wanted to retain XP for now), but, as mentioned in the Ubuntu thread, it can certainly also be installed with a thumb drive.
s10 white, 1.5GB RAM, triple boot: XP, Ubuntu 8.04.1 and 8.10.

You can use the following method to boot and install Ubuntu from a USB thumb drive (this is the method I used)...

or...

You can boot Ubuntu 8.10 from CD using another PC, select "Create a USB startup disc" via System>Administration, and select the Ubuntu ISO.

I am installing Ubuntu netbook remix now, .... I am not very happy with the SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop,.....not as fast as linux must to be...

I have just installed the Ubuntu Netbook Remix, faster than suse, very easy to use with touchpad, small screen,....very satisfied...reccomended. :)

are there any instructions how to install it for dual boot with xp? I am not sure how to make partition so that OKR still works
