Token New Guy!

Postby JayBirde » Sat Nov 22, 2008 11:39 pm

Hello All!
My name is JayBirde and I am the proud owner of a White S10 upgraded with 1.5GB Ram. Next step is to replace stock 80GB Hard Drive with 320GB drive and dual boot OSX and Vista (or maybe Windows 7). So far I love my new S10 and am so happy I didn't buy the Acer Aspire One at Costco! The funny thing about the S10 is the lack of mods. I guess that just will attest to the design of the S10. Well, anyways... thanks for having me here and I look forward to combing throught the forums for information when I take on the aforementioned projects (hopefully over Thanksgiving holiday!!)

See you in the forums,

Welcome to the forum. Enjoy your stay.
What hard drive are you going with? It seems Tom's Hardware liked the Seagate Momentus 7200 RPM drives the best in one comparo. The WD Scorpio Blacks are also nice.

Was thinking about the Scorpio actually. Just want to have a drive that is energy efficient to maximize life of my poor 3 cell battery!!

Welcome! The Seagate is supposed to be the more energy efficient 7200RPM drive. Also, nothing official but I think my Scorpio runs kind of hot.

If you want energy efficiency you want the Seagate Momentus. Look here: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/not ... 006-6.html

I installed the Seagate Momentus 320GB 7200RPM drive in my S10 and am quite happy with it. I chose it over the WD because of the power efficiency. Plus if you look for the model that ends in ASG, it will have drop protection. There's an accelerometer that will park the heads in less than 1/2 second if it detects free fall.

Wow! Thanks for all the suggestions! I took your advice and Tuesday I ordered the Seagate Momentus 5400.6 ST9500325AS 500GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Notebook Hard Drive - OEM from newegg.com. The new drive will be delivered on Friday!! Now I have a project for my Thanksgiving break! Any tips on installation? Want to partition drive into 2 partitions and install Vista or Windows 7 on one partition and OSX on the other. Am I better installing each separately on using a boot loader? or should I just install OSX and try and use Boot Camp?
