So basically you just use the AppleACPIThermal.kext from Miglos AppleACPIPlatform.kext. That is, copying AppleACPIThermal.kext from the downloaded ktext plugin-folder to your original AppleACPIPlatform.kext plugin-folder and you'll have fans running, right?

Edit: There is no AppleACPIThermal.kext in the downloaded Miglo ktext package. Where is it?

I have fans working on the msiwindosx86 distro!

Working with copies of the kexts on the dekstop, what I did STEP BY STEP so no one is confused

1. Download joeblough's AppleACPIPlatform.kext onto the dekstop: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5UKMEJEJ

2. Copied Miglos AppleACPIPlatform.kext onto the desktop

3. In joeblough's AppleACPIPlatform.kext, copied AppleACPIThermal.kext from AppleACPIPlatform.kext\AppleACPIPlatform.kext\Contents\PlugIns

4. Opened Miglo's AppleACPIPlatform.kext and navigated to AppleACPIPlatform.kext\AppleACPIPlatform.kext\Contents\PlugIns

5. Pasted the copied AppleACPIThermal.kext into Miglo'sAppleACPIPlatform.kext\AppleACPIPlatform.kext\Contents\PlugIns

6. Installed the modified AppleACPIPlatform.kext using kexthelper.

7. For good measure I trashed Extensions.mkext from the /System/Library folder

8. Rebooted


I can hear the fan speed vary under different loads.

Since amru's guide didn't address sleep I will do it here:


1. Downloaded EHCISleepEnabler.kext onto the desktop from here: http://www.superhai.com/darwin.html.

2. Installed it using kexthelper and rebooted.

3. To enable EHCISleepEnabler.kext, I edited the Info.plist as root in
/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBEHCI.kext/Contents/
You need to add these lines

<key>OSBundleCompatibleVersion</key>
<string>1.0</string>

under


<key>CFBundleVersion</key>
<string>3.1.5</string>

4. I installed ClamShellDisplay.kext from http://www.superhai.com/darwin.html using kexthelper

5. Rebooted.

Sleep works by calling it from the OSX menu or closing the clamshell

The only things I'm missing now are

1. LAN
2. Native sound
3. Brightness control using the FN keys
4. Two finger scrolling

Any help with these will be appreciated!

LAN is a lost cause, i think. i'm using an apple USB-ethernet adapter and a 3rd party kext to enable it. i made another thread here about it.

what do you mean by 'native' sound? the audeee application and azalia audio hacked kext does work. only caveats are that this solution doesnt support the internal mic, and you have to manually switch between speakers and headphones. who knows if the ipis guys will ever figure out proper sound, it's a tall order.

two finger scrolling is reported to work, but the trackpad becomes jumpy without a lot of tweaking. i think there might be a thread here regarding that. i havent tried it because it sounds like a big PITA.

brightness control does work fine with the "27aeAppleIntegratedFramebuffer.kext" (and its companion kext for the GMA950 that i cant remember the exact name of right now). there's a thread here dealing with those kexts.

As far as two finger scroll, I need to figure out a way to create some kind of quick recovery image in case I mess up my installation. I backed up with time machine last night but will this work if I use a 10.5.4 install DVD (msiwind) to restore a 10.5.5 volume?

I tried the kext you refer to for enabling brightness via the FN key but it killed my previous installation and I had to start from scratch. What is the best way to recover from a non booting OS as a result of the installation of an incompatible kext? To be more specific, if I have a backup of a kext somewhere and I can't boot up my install are there any basic linux commands I could learn to move the back up into system/library/extensions from the darwin bootloader? Is this even a viable solution?

well i've never done a restore of a whole partition from time machine so i'm not sure. but if you are asking if you can boot from a disc containing a 10.5.4 installer and restore a disk that had 10.5.5 on it via time machine, yeah that would probably work. i wasnt aware that the installer disc had a way to recover from a time machine backup. that's good to know.

in the case of video drivers hosing you up, i think you could probably boot the system in single user mode (use -s at the boot prompt) and then follow the instructions that appear right before the prompt to remount the root volume as read/write. then move your backups back into /S/L/E, type "sync<return>" a couple of times at the shell prompt (to make sure your changes make it to the disk) and then "reboot" from the prompt. if by linux command you meant shell commands, well there you go. but if you meant you wanted to mount your macosx disk on linux, i think that wont work - i dont think there are journaled HFS+ filesystem drivers for linux.
