Hello! New owner here.

Hi all, soon to be proud owner of a used S10 here, thought I'd introduce myself!

I'm buying a used black S10 off of another forum, it should arrive in the mail tomorrow hopefully. It has a 2GB dimm, and otherwise is stock. It has a 3-cell battery; I ordered a 9-cell from Amazon, so all told I should have a lot of battery life. The previous owner has 32-bit Windows 7 Ultimate on it alongside Backtrack Linux; I'm not sure if they're fresh installs or what, but if not I'll throw Win 7 32-it Pro on it (thanks MSDN-AA! 8-) )

Anyways, just wanted to introduce myself since I'll probably be referring to these forums quite a bit. I'm already planning on using the hacked bios to switch FN and Ctrl that I found in one of the threads on here, and depending on what the temps are, may end up doing the copper shim trick to make better contact with the CPU.

Well I got the S10 and I love it! I'm currently going through the conditioning cycles for my new 9-cell, so while I do I've got the netbook sitting here next to my main rig, which is quite nice as I can browse the web without alt-tabbing out of games :D

Anyways a few interesting things I noticed, the laptop actually has 1GB of built in ram, with a 512MB DIMM. It also has a 1024x576 glossy screen, and the OEM sticker for Win XP on the bottom is for the Singapore edition; all this points to it being one of the units sold in Singapore as an S10 that is actually an S10G or S10E. Is there any difference between the S10e and S10G? At any rate, it's been interesting trying to figure out this netbook's background and I think I've finally got it figured out. I wish I could get some accurate temp readings; both CoreTemp and RealTemp give identical readings with tjmax set to 90C, but they're too low to be realistic; meanwhile speedfan reports 66C idle, which I'd like to think is too high and inaccurate, but I'm not really certain. It's been running fine at any rate, its quite responsive even with Aero enabled. I absolutely love how sturdy and sleek the netbook looks, just like a good Lenovo should. Anyways, I look forward to spending some time in these forums.

Welcome!

The forum here has slowed down a bit but there is still tons of information. To my knowledge, the S10E and S10G are pretty much identical. The G was only released in some parts of Asia and Australia. I couldn't pick out any technical differences.

Glad you like your S10. I've had mine since day one of when it was released and it's still going strong.

Thanks for the reply! Alright, good to know about the E and G. I got my 9-cell battery and I'm quite happy with it. Coming from a power-hungry HP that gets at best 2 hours of battery life if its just idling, and before that lots of old laptops whose batteries are completely dead, this thing is a revelation! I'm still enjoying the netbook; honestly I'm really surprised at how responsive it feels. It's awesome for browsing and note-taking, which is pretty much all I need it for at school, so I definitely got my money's worth with it. Overall its just a great little machine.
