ASUS N10JH & Alienware M11x

Postby Angelus » Wed May 12, 2010 5:17 pm

Hey guys,

Are any of you interested in ultra mobile gaming on the go? I use to have an ASUS N10J-A2 but in the end my thoughts were thus:

If I can't fit it in my pocket and have to carry it over my shoulder anyway, I want a full size laptop!! You see the N10J is pretty cool. It's a 10.2" Netbook with a Nvidia 105M 512Mb Dedicated GPU. Intel Atom of course....2Gb of DDR2 RAM stock as well. IT can run some games at decent settings. I played Far Cry 2, Oblivion, GRID, Dead Space, Silent Hill Homecoming, Resident Evil 5, The Penumbra Series etc..all from Medium to High settings. Oh, and Modern Warfare.

IT was a cool little device for $600. I just found that if I have to carry a bag with it I would prefer to have a full 15.4" - 18" desktop re-placement. That way when I whip it out I can really do some gaming. But I guess portability is nice, being able to put it anywhere and fast is good. I don't know, what do ou think?

I find the times I only need a 10" screen are when I'm having coffee or something and wouldn't really game anyway.

So, do any of you want the M11x? Or the ASUS N10JH? Just to clarify the M11x has a Nvidia 330M 1Gb Dedicated GPU, and the option of a 1.3Ghz Core 2 Duo vs the 1.6Ghz Atom...

I'll have to admit that I was really tempted by the Alienware, but in the end I needed more CPU speed over a better GPU for my work so I had to pass on it. For a decent price, you can squeeze an amazing amount of power into that small chassis and the higher resolution of the 11" display can be very nice to have.

I had no idea Alienware had a netbook. I need to do some research on this little machine.

I don't know about the Asus but the Alienware definitely caught my eyes. As bad as this may sound, my decision on purchases is based on 50% just to have factor. :? As I don't play much games on PC, the M11x would of definitely fallen under that category. Luckily the price has deterred me away from it. If it was under $500, I would of been all over it! ;)

Agreed on the Alienware price. I was at their website trying to configure a good system and it ran to just over $1K.

Yeah, that Alienware is expensive. I og to say though, at times I do miss my asus. Look for an ASUS N10J-A1 on eBay you can find them for around $450.00 or so with shipping. IF you don't game it is rather pointless, although...being able to play 1080P output to an HD TV through the N10's HDMI is quite nice. It was like I had a Apple TV-like computer everywhere!! All in all, it's a good little machine. If you do some gaming, I would have to recommend it.

Being a cheapskate I was looking for a discount on the M11x laptop. Turns out there was a $100 off deal that expired a week ago. $699 for it wouldn't have been out of my price range. Oh well. Looks like I'm going home to count the pennies in my coin jar tonight.

Curse my electronics obsession!

haha, I know how you feel! Some of my friends think I'm crazy always wanting a new gadget. But I use to play guitar, and I always wanted a new one as well. It's completely normal, but expensive :o

That's funny, I was browsing this topic and learned for myself that Alienware had a netbook. My first thought was "it probably costs a thousand dollars." I guess my cynicism wasn't so far off base. :D
