As you can see my S10E is indeed displaying at 1366x768....great!!!!

The bad part tho, is that upon cold booting the machine BIOS and BootLoaders aren't displayed, and I'm stuck with letting my default os (Snow Leopard) is currently my other option. I think BIOS is expecting the old LCD and isn't displaying anything when it can't identify the new one. I'm sure there is a way to fix this, and I would grateful for any help

Thanks,

John

You are our hero. I've been asking this question before in this forum and I guess no one wanted to take the risk. This is an amazing discovery. I'm now going to order one probably but plug it in later (december - mine is still under warranty).

So BIOS splash screen and chameleon doesn't show up? Maybe try adjusting or changing the embedded theme to a different resolution or maybe use /Extra/Themes (with a different theme that has higher resolution). This seems far fetched idea but I can't think up of any other ideas. Maybe you can also re-flash your BIOS and see it will help - not sure if it is safe but just maybe.

Also, have you tried using an external monitor and see if the BIOS or Chameleon options will show up?

PS: what did you mean about BIOS not showing up. As in pressing the F2 then you don't see the bluescreen with options or just the splash screen?

Good luck and Congrats!

I hope the video demonstration can help answer your questions. I'm going to do another one with the S10E hooked up to the VGA out as well.

Thanks,

John

So, in the same way that you can at least control Chameleon by hitting F8 at the right time, can you enter the BIOS setup by hitting F2 right after powering on? It seems like an issue of the BIOS not having the capabilities to drive the new display, so you have to wait until a full OS takes over and implements some higher-level GPU action to get any output. The BIOS can power the display (that's why it looks like it's turning on even when you can't see anything), but it can't output any useful info. I'd be interested to see what happens with an external monitor as well, especially what resolution it uses during boot.

some computers display the other video output when there was a change of screen, so have you tried to press the Fn + F3 shortcut during boot?
maybe it uses the vga during boot because of a new monitor, dont know

but thats a very good mod, i think i will change mine too, it worth the price..

ps : on the video i see as a kind of "pressed area" in the botom of the screen, maybe the connector is not well placed,
or there is something else pushing
at least that works, i hope the flicker issue doesnt happend on windows and it would be perfect

thanks!

Yeah, I noticed the "pressed" looking area too. That looks to be just glare on the lcd from the lights behind me as I was videoing. I don't have any issues with the screen displaying distorted images, just the flickering with the brightness set higher than 4 ticks below max. Have had it on pretty much since i did the mod, and only rebooted to apt-get update my karmic installation. I'm working on tethering my Pre Plus via WiFi for internet (almost) everywhere. I know MyTether is out for Pre Plus, but I where's the challenge in just buying an app? I learn so much more about a system by trying to hack things together myself. Anyways, I'll be posting again before I hit the sack tonight. Maybe another video post. We'll see. Happy hacking!!

hi there :)

have seen your vid of the screen mod and the problems.

did you change the inverter of the screen also or is it the standard one ?
if you didnt change it then it´s clear why it is behaving as it is.

cheers

There is not inverter to speak of inside the LCD housing. It must be integrated, because the cable goes straight from the back of the LCD to the mobo.

So far I've been using it with all of the operating systems installed and it has been working fine. So long as I remember to tap F8 at cold boot and the order that chameleon has the OSes in, it functions as normal. True, there is the flicker issue at max brightness, but that and no POST/Visible Bootloader Menu, to me at least, is a very small sacrifice for being able to have a 1366x768 resolution on that netbook. If I really need to see the POST or Bootloader, I can just hook up to an external vga monitor.
