HD replacement with SSD

Postby quetzal98 » Fri Apr 09, 2010 1:10 am

Hi,

I am considering to replace my internal HD by an SSD. Does anyone got some experiences in doing that? Which type of SSD should be prefered (the S12 supports SATA-150 only)?

Or: Is it really worth to do this in terms of systems performance or battery life?

Thanks a lot,

Oliver

I did it. Its worth it. Dont worry about Sata type because the transfer rate is really what matters. I posted a pic up to show just how fast the SSD was over the HDD. (5x faster!!)

transfer rates of a hdd read mode : 66
transfer rates of an OCZ Vertex 120GB SSD: 250+

Makes my s12 feel as response as my Core2Duo corporate T61.

Just do it. trust me.

Hi Rob,
I am interested in installind a SSD on my S10 running Ubuntu 9.04 remix. If I hear you correctly I can install any SSD and it does not have to be SATA as long as it is 3.5 inch. Please confirm.

Thanks,
kas

Kas, make sure you get a 2.5 inch hard drive (solid state or otherwise) as a 3.5 inch one will be too big for your netbook, 3.5 inch is for desktops.

Any SSD should be fine though. Look into the sort of error correcting done by the drive controller as some will last longer than others and be less likely to fail.
