Thanks for the wealth of information Lonnie. I've heard good things about Avast, and the ability to update all my machines from the WHS is a very nice feature.

I haven't trusted Samsung drives in the past and won't consider them now. It will be either a Western Digital, or more likely a Seagate drive for my server. I've had a couple bad things happen with WD drives though. I've owned 4 WD drives in my life and two of them went bad. Fortunately they were both under warranty at the time. The last one is in the machine I'm using right now. It is WD's high end Velociraptor 10,000RPM drive. They are supposed to be "high quality" but that didn't stop this one from dying. The new one in my machine is a replacement.

I've purchased about 10 Seagates and only had one fail over the years. That one was also under warranty and replaced at no cost. Fry's Electronics currently has a 2TB, 5900RPM drive for $189. I'm leaning towards that at the moment.

The hard drive purchase has been made. My LX195 is now running 2GB memory and 2TB of hard drive space courtesy of Seagate. I've backed up two Windows machines and my Mac Mini. Still have plenty of room for the 500+GB of data I still need to upload to it.

Did they fix the errors with the 7200.11 drives?

Yes they did. I went through that with my brother's 1.5TB drive.

Also this drive is not the "7200" model drive. It's Seagate's new line of "LP" (low power) drives that run at 5900RPM.
