Which earphones/headphones do you use?

Postby darkninja67 » Wed Nov 12, 2008 8:54 am

I post at Headfi.org so I thought I would see what you guys use for audio duties since the speakers on netbooks are pretty poor.

I use Shure SE530 in ear monitors for most of my listening right now. I also own a pair of Etymotic ER4P IEMs. I used to own around 7 pairs of full size headphones. That was an expensive hobby.

Post what you run people.

$20 Sony In-Ear from Amazon. Don't know the model number, they're really popular

I have a very old pair of Kenwood active noise canceling earphones. They are around 10 years old and need to be replaced because the cushion fabric around the cups are falling apart. I love the audio quality of these headphones and just haven't convinced myself to replace them yet.

Rather off topic, but why oh why aren't wireless earphones standard now days? I'm so sick of catching my headphones on random items as I walk through the house. This is the 21st century for crying out loud.

SystemJinx I completely agree with you, I hate wires. The problem is that the quality is not as good and that ipod don't support stereo bluetooth, I think that if they did it would become much much more popular

Wireless headphones require charging. And a battery of some sort. And so on. That's probably why; wires are so much less hassle even if they do get caught on things. No need to worry about pairing them to a device, or running out of power.

That said, I do have a Motorola HS820 BT headset and it was great with the MSi Wind.

well... if you post over at head-fi, perhaps you recognize me? ;) I haven't been active there for about two years though so maybe not (nothing really interesting has happened IMO during that time and I kinda exhausted most of the tweaking options). I might recall your screenname, but then again maybe not.

right now I'm mainly using travel-gear which would be stuff like the audio-technica ATH-CM7Ti, audio-technica ATH-EW9, victor HP-FXC70, sony MDR-D70, and the like since I'm away from home. I don't like IEM's much so the portable stuff is relatively economical in comparison to...

but back home there's a Sennheiser HE90, Sony MDR-R10, Sony MDR-Q010, Grado PS-1, couple of old-school Grado RS-1's each with their wooden boxes, a few ATH-L3000's, all the full-sized ATH-W headphones (ATH-W10VTG to ATH-W5000), AKG K1000, Sennheiser HD650, and many others. I hope I didn't miss any of the major ones (the K1000 almost slipped my mind. that's kinda bad. I guess the grado HF-1 deserves a mention too based on its rarity, especially in the condition mine is in). since this is a headphone/earphone thread, I won't list the amps and sources since that list is pretty long too. :P

btw, I just got another pair of ATH-L3000's and an AT-DHA3000 digital amplifier from a local store. a bit banged up IMO since they were display models, but I'm planning on fixing it up a bit through the AT service center then selling it. they're a great pair, but I already have three ATH-L3000's in addition to this new one, and I already own an AT-DHA3000 too. :P the price was too good to pass up.

someone's really into headphones....   at least the stuff I have seem to be going up in value as time passes versus the usual trend of depreciation, so that's good I suppose.
