SD + SSD

Postby Calimero » Fri Nov 05, 2010 5:20 pm

I found this, and was thinking of buying it, but i'm not too sure about whether it'll work, since it says "It's designed specifically for the EEE PC S101"...

(this is probably a stupid question but) will this work in my S10-2, in the second mini PCIe slot (or first, whichever)??

I'm also planning on sticking grub on a 128mb SD card (in the card reader at the front), and then using it to boot off the SSD. Is this possible either??

Many thanks,

Calimero

I understand, now, that there is a "whitelist", in terms of what one can use in the slots, and while i found a hacked BIOS that allows one to use any WLAN card in the second slot, I also understand that there isn't a hack that allows one to use any SSD in the slot.

soooooo.....

Does anybody know which SSDs I can use in my S10-2??

I'm using the cheap intel X25-V, it did give me a boost, though not as huge as what I get with the same SSD in my high end desktop

The simple answer is yes, but you have to jump through hoops which I don't have simple instructions for. Or a long one for that matter.

I take it what you are trying to do is use a small SSD for the operating system and then use the standard 2.5" for storage. It's a great idea but not easy to do. If you have the time, do the research. For me, I'd rather just get a 2.5" SSD and call it a day. :)
