Dual boot SL/Win7 with Win7 installed first?

Postby dbbis » Mon Jul 12, 2010 5:11 pm

Hello,

I have scrutinized the threads related to dual booting SL/Win7, and have noticed that most of them assume that SL is installed first.

Now, is it possible for me to:
- keep my Win7 partition and
- install SL on another one, using NBI for instance?

If it is possible, how should I do?

Or if it is not possible, should I:
- backup my Win7 partition, using Acronis True Image
- make 2 partitions with the GUID option
- install SL
- then restore my Win 7 partition.

Or do you see another option?

If so, could you please let me know how to do? That would be great. Thank you!

i think u just need make two partition, here no problem which system u install first.. just set active partition and install.
so, u can install any system first i think.
I Use too dualboot, SL install method with Enabler, dont remember which system i am installed first, but after enabler update i lost too win7 boot error, and after set win7 paartition active, lost chameleon boot, repaired win7, and again set back correct boot partition...

Thank you, intommy, for your suggestion.

I am going to set the SL partition active, and try to install .

Just one question, related to what I see in OSX terminal:
Code: Select all
diskutil list

/dev/disk0
#:             TYPE NAME                               SIZE               IDENTIFIER
0:    FDisk_partition_scheme                       *500.1 GB           disk0
1:          Windows_NTFS System Reserved            104.9 MB           disk0s1
2:          Windows_NTFS Win7                       284.9 GB           disk0s2
3:          Apple_HFS SL                            215.1 GB           disk0s3

I should set disk0s3 active, right?

Thanks again!

my disk partition
Code: Select all
/dev/disk0
   #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
   0:      GUID_partition_scheme                        *320.1 GB   disk0
   1:                        EFI                         209.7 MB   disk0s1
   2:                  Apple_HFS Mac OS X SL             144.9 GB   disk0s2
   3:       Microsoft Basic Data                         174.9 GB   disk0s3

yes, if i need repair or manipulate with Win7 disk partition i set active disk0s3 active

if u need install SL, ofc set disk0s2 active

let me think. u have installed Windows 7 (image), maybe better start clear SL install, in diskutility while instalation start manage partition, and after SL install end, set Windows partition active and clone back ur instaled win7. After u check win 7 is works, set active back partition with chameleon and press F8 u can choose which system u want start

after u done SL install, and clone or install Win7 on active windows partition, maybe u need repair windows 7 boot.. be sure any time which disk u select for win7 repair inside windows 7 installer. My experience: if no correct partition active (win7), 4 times i destroy my install win7 flashdisk.
