continuous boot when upgrading from 10.6.0 to 10.6.3

Postby kas » Wed Jun 30, 2010 10:36 pm

I hope someone is able to help me. I have a Lenovo S10 with 2 GB RAM running SL 10.6.0 and I am very happy with it. I would like to do a software update to 10.6.3 or 10.6.4 however when I attempt to do that, my netbook goes into an endless boot and I have to reinstall the OS again. Please let me know if there is a way around it. I read somewhere that with 1 GB of RAM all works well, so before I go out and buy a 1GB RAM and install it, I would like to know if there is a way to do that with my current system config.

Thanks,

As you don't state which method you used to get to OSX it may be difficult to help you...

At least i can say, that everything works very well for me with 2GB of Ram (which i had installed before going OSX).

Thank you for your response. I transferred a purchased Snow Leopard copy into a usb flash drive, formatted my hard drive in mac os journaled, booted from the flash drive and followed the instructions. I then installed the enabler 1.1.13 on my Lenovo installed MAC OS X, and performed a software update. That's when I got the continuous boot. I then reinstalled the OS and checked for software update. I deselected the MacBook Air Firmware Update and performed the update and got the same result.

I am now running 10.6.0 without any problems except the known ones such as mic and rj-45 port not working but I can live without them. It would be greatly appreciated if you can help me update my OS. I have 2 GB RAM installed besides the 512 MB on the board.

Best Regards,

You should try the newer S10Enabler 1.1.15 which is ready for the 10.6.4 update.

Hi marcian,

I just wanted to let you know that I followed your instructions and installed 10.6.0 and used s10enabler 1.1.15 and was able to upgrade to 10.6.4 successfully. I want to thank you for your help. I even changed my RAM based hard drive to a SSD.
The internal mic is working, sleep is also working, the RJ-45 is not and when I restart it get stuck and I have to power down and then up.

cheers,

The Ethernet port is just not supported. There is no driver.
I can confirm the restarting issue for my Netbook, too.
So for restart i need to shut down and switch back on.

Good that you got everything working.

Is your SSD worth its money ? (Does it increase speed a lot?)

Well I haven't noticed much difference yet, 7 sec to shutdown and 40 to boot with automatic sign on. I expect it to prolong battery life though. If I can redo it again, I would have bought a larger drive than the SSD.
