The S netbook is NOT an Apple product and was never intended to run Mac OSX. Fortunately, enthusiasts have found ways to make OSX run on our netbook. However, the process may not be smooth for some. Make sure you have patience and time to get it to run. Most importantly, motivation to read and learn. This forum contains enough information to get OSX running. I have the same model as you. Same problem.

I had a 10.6.3 disc --->modded kernel to allow install.

Used NetbookBootmaker to install Mac OSX via USB without a mac available.
Installed enabler 1.1.15 ---> no backlight as expected
Upgraded to 10.6.4

...wait a few weeks....

enabler 1.1.16 is released
installed.
no backlight on wake from sleep activated from apple menu.

I would just like to add some positive experience to this forum. I have a Red S10e type 4333. I have successfully used Vanii's enabler since 1.1.12 with no major issues. Each time I have followed the instructions to the letter initially to create the install USB then subsequently to run the enabler to update the hard disk and the installation USB. Each time it has worked flawlessly.

For the record this week I went from a 10.6.3 install using enabler 1.1.14 to a 10.6.4 using enabler 1.1.16 (missing out upgrading to enabler 1.1.15). I did this by installing enabler 1.1.16 to my hard disk then rebooting into 10.6.3 then installing a downloaded 10.6.4 update (not the combo) and then rebooted into 10.6.4. At each stage I checked for the "no backlight after sleep" by closing the lid waiting for the leftmost light to blink (showing sleep had been activated) then re-opened the lid and logged back on to Snow leopard. (NB I never actually had the backlight issue but given the amount of people who have complained they got it after enabler updates I thought I would check at each stage of the process just in case).

I hope this helps some people who like me may have been hesitating to update to the latest enabler as we often report in detail problems but do not often report positive ones.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Vanii for his work without which we would all be in a much worse place.

Still having the backlight issue. Tried installing 1.1.16 - no backlight after sleep. Recreated USB installer from 10.6 retail disk using 1.1.16 and installed "essentials" over top - still no backlight after sleep. Do I need to do a fresh install? Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Thanks SilverZero. I'll try it out once I got the shipment from apple store on the SL retail installation disk.
