Discussion on installing OS X

The S netbook is NOT an Apple product and was never intended to run Mac OSX. Fortunately, enthusiasts have found ways to make OSX run on our netbook. However, the process may not be smooth for some. Make sure you have patience and time to get it to run. Most importantly, motivation to read and learn. This forum contains enough information to get OSX running. Most problems you may encounter can be solved just by reading through the forums or searching. So please take the time and read through the forums!

Running Snow Leopard on my S10e easily enough. Everything works except ethernet port (didn't work in Leopard either), audio, sleep, and restart.
And none of it was rocket science. Pretty much the same as installing Leopard except even easier I believe with the netbookbootmaker utility.
All I did was the usual restore-DMG-to-USB-drive and the followed this link.
Worked like a charm. Now I'm just hunting around to see if anyone has gotten audio, sleep, and restart to work.
The kexts from previous OS versions cause kernel panics due to a lot of OS code changes, so it looks like everyone will be starting from scratch again.
It's a LOT faster on the Lenovo S10e than Leopard was, IMNSHO.

Gpartd didn't recognize the partition - seems to think the entire disk is unallocated.
DiskUtil when I booted Leopard original disk from a DellEFI disk also wouldn't resize it.

Looks like it is time to blow it all away and start fresh.
And I think I'll put on XP too so when my Win7 update disk arrives next month it will be all nice and cozy.

It's possible, it's just fancy scripting with a nice icon. That's the next goal.

My guess is that the software update replaced the Extensions.mkext in your /S/L/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup folder (I wish there was an easier abbreviation for that directory path). You can fix it if you are able to boot into single user mode using the -s flag at boot, then you can manually rebuild the mkext.

Code: Select all
chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions
chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions
kextcache -v 1 -tlm /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions

To be extra cautious, you might even delete the existing mkext before doing that so it doesn't interfere.

Code: Select all
rm -f /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/*

Hopefully that works.

Odd. I ran SU and installed that same update on my S10e and didn't get a KP.

I tried the latest ver. of NetbokbootMaker and everything seems to work except the web cam and the microphone. The only trick is you have to change the the sata controller in the bios to compatible. After you have finished installing I had to go in the bios one more time and change the sata controller again to compatible. After that I was greeted with the movie and then the setup routine. I setup my 8gig usb thumb drive on my IMac using a retail copy of Snow Leopard and patched it with NetbookBootMaker. This was for a new install of Snow Leopard with SL being the only OS on my S10. I have not tried software update because I have been too chicken to !!
