Is there something weird that I'm missing? How do I gain more space in the HFS+ partition on the thumbdrive?

Not missing anything - I had exactly the same when using a 10.5.1 disk... 10.5.6 for some reason takes up less space.

And that was it exactly... I was using 10.5.4 but now that I've gone to 10.5.6 everything is peachy! Thanks!

I just used this method on a new s10e purchased for the wife. It worked perfectly without a hitch.

The expanded SX-BL image should only be 969mb, even though there is less than 5mb of actual data inside it. The next revision of this will be built with a very small physical volume, something like 16mb if I can find an old flash drive around. But since this one was made with a 1gb stick, the image comes out as 1gb (or slightly less). If your 1gb USB stick doesn't have 969mb available, I think it's just a limitation of the way it was manufactured.

Im having a problem after updating 10.5.6 to 10.5.7, the second key from the top left on the keyboard, the "tilde/back quote", is now mapped to "§" and "±". I have tried to change the mapping via system preferences -> international -> input menu but to no avail. What can I do to change this, I've tried google but suggestions are for the pre-mentioned method.

I tried kextupdate.sh with Hagars .mkext file and trashed the install. Back to 10.5.6, where I'm going to stay for the moment, oh and the keys map fine.

Download Ukulele to remap your keyboard. You can use the Logitech keyboard layout.

Hi people! Thanks for all yur hard work. I started with an image of 10.5.6 retail one 8gb and one 2gb usb stick and this install guide. Then I spent 2 days with Transmac trying to get the retail image on the 8gb stick, but it would not fit. Finally I decided to use the boot disk from this install to first hackintize my s!0 with the msiwindosx.iso. This was real easy and then could use OSX disk utility to fit the retail image onto the 8gb stick. I then swapped the 8GB stick back into my pc and transmacced the copy-first files etc into the retail-on-an-8gb-stick. From there i just followed this topics install guide. Impressive how easy it went from there. Sound is a bit disappointing (i understand this retail is still work in progress) and i almost messed up my 500gb usb drive when trying out the sleep which came back with the possible data loss warning.

great going guys (dolls?)

It's just an .mkext, it conatins pretty much all you need, and was never meant to be used with any other script. the idea is that you drop it in place, update online with Software Update or with a downloaded update from Apple, and then reboot. Once it's done the double-reboot successfully you can mess about until its all the way you want it.

Great work. Going to try this soon.
Also, I presume I can extract some of the kext out for an existing system to solve some problems....

The download linked in the first post here includes all the extensions unpacked, or you could try Hagar's mkext and unpack it with MkextTool. That will be the basis of the next version.

Cheers Hagar, Everything worked after the 10.5.7 upgrade except for VoodooHDA. The panic occurred after running Kextupdate.sh to fix the VoodooHDA and rebooting. Should I be running kextupdate.sh after the upgrade?, How would I re-install the sound driver alternatively?
