New HDD Partitioning Question

I just ordered the S10 from lenovo's website and I ordered a 2gb RAM and 500gb 5400rpm seagate hdd from newegg. Newegg got my upgrades here in 3 days while Lenovo has already pushed the ship date to next week. I hope it ships at least close to on time.

Anyhow, I'm trying to plan out how I am going to partition the drive. I'm planning on setting it up to dual boot with windows 7 and OSX. My question is, can I set it up where both OS's can read the same drive? Can I have one partition for windows (~25gb?), one for osx (same size, ~25gb), and have both able to read/write files to the third partition with the remainder?

Is there a recommended file system to use? NTFS? etc? Are the sizes sufficient? Any other suggestions for the set up would be appreciated.

I believe you can, as long as you use NTFS for the third partition- slower, but compatible. But...I'd think about making those system partitions larger, especially on such a large HD. OS X in particular starts to chug if you fill up it's partition due to the large amount of VM it uses. I'd go at least 50/50/all the rest, if not 75/75.

Lenovo seems to keep delaying my ship date. Anyone else had this problem when they ordered directly from lenovo? How long am I going to be waiting?

Good luck ordering from Lenovo. I ordered on 1/31/09 and the pushed back the ship date. This morning it showed 2/11/09. I called and canceled my order with Lenovo. I placed an order with Tigerdirect, and my computer has already shipped. (for $20 less than Lenovo's website)
