I bought my S10 when it was first released. Just like yours, I need a new battery for it as it does not hold a charge. It runs great but I hardly use it.

I bought mine when they first came out in late 2008. I immediately upgraded it to 2GB of memory. I did a clean install of XP Pro at first, and then later installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix. I used it for about 9 months or so and it worked perfectly. I then bought a Gateway laptop and I gave the S10 to my then 8 year old daughter. Funny thing is that I just got the s10 back from my daughter as I got a new Toshiba laptop and then I gave her my Gateway laptop. I surprised to say that the S10 works just like it did 2 years ago. It runs surprisingly quick for a netbook. The only time it shows any lag is if a try to run a 720p full screen YouTube video or something like that. I'm thinking about installing Linux back on it, just to change things up. Overall, I'm still impressed with the S10. The 3 cell battery is the only thing that I do not like about it. I get about 2 hours max with a fully charged battery.

I ordered mine in October of 08. It's always been a linux book, running Kubuntu like a champ. I've replaced the DC jack and upped to an extended battery after the faulty jack killed the original, but the little guy is still going strong. Used it for programming at first, after I gave that up it became the hub all of my communication (IRC, Jabber, Vent, AIM), something to browse the web with while gaming on my other laptop, and a really convenient school PC. Just replaced it this week with an ASUS Eee Pad Transformer and Dock. I'm going to miss it, and all of the stickers it's collected

It's not out of the game yet though! Giving it to my mother, hopefully teach her how to use linux.

I have a first-edition red S10 purchased in Dec 2008 that I use almost daily. I put Jolicloud on it and swapped out the hard drive for a larger one and bought a second battery. I still have the original hard drive that had been used for about an hour stored inside the S10's box. It struggles with Flash, but other than that, it's been super dependable.

Hi all,

Well I bought my Lenovo S10 (Model 20015) on the beginning of 2009. I do not remember the exact month now but around February or March. So far it keeps working (knock on wood) and hope it continues to work for a long time. :D

So far the only alterations I have made to my original purchase:
* Topped RAM to 2 GB
* Changed OS from Win XP Home to Win XP Pro
* Added Bluetooth
* Changed battery to a 9 cell (after original died about 3 to 4 months ago)

2 GB RAM (crucial) / 160 GB HDD / Bluetooth (ebay)
9 Cell Battery (ebay)

I got my S9 at the end of 2008 - not only is it still running (using it to type this) but I've never had any problem with it. It's got Windows 7 on it now which works really well. From the amount of traffic on this board I seem to be the only person who ever bought the 9 instead of 10 version. :/ Since I got it in Hong Kong it has a huge UK style power plug so I have to have a socket adapter on it.

At the time I got it there were others that either cost less or the same with more features but the S9 felt like it was built the best so I got it anyway. Turns out to probably be the best choice after all - I wonder how many Asus eee 901, the main competitor at the time, still work so well!

I have an S9 too. Had it for about 3 or 4 years. I upgraded the memory to 1.5GB, swapped the hard disk for a SSD and now it's running OSX 10.6 instead of Windows. It absolutely flies.

S10, ~3 years ago. I have a full 14" laptop, a tablet and the S10. For me, the S10 gets the most use on vacation, trips and even a bit for work.

Mods
Reset, added shim and thermal paste to CPU heatsink
Removed meshing on intake air vents and remove plastic air blockage thingy on exhaust fan outlet
Added internal BT module
Added 1GB ram
Swapped 40gb to 100gb drive
Removed rubber legs (involuntary mod, they fell off ;) )
