IdeaCentre c100

Postby phattbam » Thu Nov 26, 2009 4:50 am

anyone know or think this would work with OSX?

http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-IdeaCentre ... B002SG7LVA

The specs on amazon say it runs with N270 but Lenovo says it's some 230 atom cpu...

Considering getting one of these for the folks and hacking it up. like I am on my new s10e

Other specs say it comes with either the Intel Core 230 or Core 330 CPU, both of which *should* work with OSX. The 230 is basically a 64-bit version of the Atom N270 (1.6ghz, 512kb L2 cache, 533mhz FSB, 4W power dissipation vs. 2.5W for the N270). The 330 is actually a dual-core 64-bit version (1.6ghz, 1mb L2 cache, 533mhz FSB, 8W power dissipation). Comparison table here (all the same info I just gave). They're both built on the Diamondville 45nm architecture, same as the N-class CPUs. They should all support the same instruction sets.

Buy one cheap tomorrow or on Cyber Monday and try it out, if it doesn't work you can sell it for a profit (hopefully). :)

Thanks Silverzero... I will look into the c100 as Lenovo has their black friday sale going on right now. Just wondering if I would put OSX SL on it or W7 for my folks who are new to computer usage... Which would be an easier OS to teach them how to use basic functions?? any thoughts? W7 or OSX SL?

Definitely W7, mostly because you don't want to introduce any legal or technical issues into a learning environment. You don't want to have to help them every time they run a system update and break their hacked install. You want something that is designed and supported for your hardware.

sounds like a plan. I'll look around and see what's out there. I've seen some mediocre reviews on it so far so I'm not sure.
