Recommended model?

Postby shippo0708 » Tue Apr 26, 2011 9:56 am

obviously im a newb in this department

I want to buy one of these netbooks but im still having mixed feelings on which to get.
My main goal is to get one that'll run 10.6.7 with very few things not working (i have a working wifi card i can swap out since that appears to be the main thing that breaks for people)

but besides that what model works best on 10.6.7

thanks

If you'll buy a S10 or S10e you will be fine with OS X. One reason for the S10(e) is, that it's the most compatible model and the Enabler is designed for the S10(e) model. Also another reason to buy the S10(e) is, that you'll get them quite cheap (but I don't know if any shop still sells new ones - but used units on ebay should be quite cheap)

Well I can only confirm, that the S10e works fine here with 10.6.7. However there is one negative point about the S10(e): Both do only use the Atom N270 processor, so no EM64T (64-bit) support.

That's important because Apple may drops the 32-bit-support in their OS X Lion operating system (but so far nobody knows - the developer previews still run on 32-bit machines, but maybe that's going to be changed in the final version)
And that would mean, that the S10e probably wouldn't be able to run OS X Lion (if they really drop it)

Just wanted to add that :D

meh lol

for the most part i was gonna use snow leopard since a 10inch screen doesnt really appeal to me for lion so id only really want to run it on my imac

but hmm i guess ill do a bit more research on it

i kno i mentioned something along the lines of not caring about lion, but im slowly leaning toward a s10-3(t) so i can atleast have 64-bit ability but the success rate is a lil scary

Which graphics card does the S10-3(t) use? Is it a Intel GMA950 like the S10(e) uses?

And by the way: Talking again about Lion: To be honest - either it's Lion itself and the lack of drivers on my S10e or it's the Atom N270 in it - Lion runs quite notably slower than Snow Leopard on the same machine (but like I said, I'm not sure which one of both is the reason for that :D)
