OSX + WinXP using bootcamp & osx bootloader (now working!!!)

Postby apex » Wed Jun 16, 2010 7:05 am

Hello all,

I setup a nearly perfect working S10 and it seems I killed it again...
If I power on my S10, only Windows is loading...

What happend:
- Using bootcamp I setup a 7GB partition for Windows on my S10
- Using bootcamp I also setup a 7GB partition for Windows on my real MacBook Pro

- I installed WinXP to the Bootcamp partition from my real MacBook
- I made a full backup from this partition using WinClone (http://www.twocanoes.com/winclone/)
- Again using WinClone I copied the image to the bootcamp partition, yes it was the right partition! :)

But if I now power on my S10, WinXP is starting directly. In the harddisk manager from Windows I can
see my MacPartition (unknown), but how can I boot it again????

Please help... I need the S10 tomorrow...

You need to set the OSX (or Bootcamp) partition as the active partition. This can be done easily with gParted, and can be done with FDISK from Windows. If the XP partition is active, the BIOS will just boot it directly, which means it will run NTLDR and such right away, not even seeing the Bootcamp partition during boot.

Sorry, how to set the OSX partition as active? It seems that my problem is that I used bootcamp for setting up the windows partition. Even the guide for dummies with the chain0 methode did not work... -> rebooting and I see again the WinXP boot menu.

To get to the bootLoader you need to tap F8 immediately after the Lenovo splash screen.......

I posted this in a previous forum:

Ok, So i finally figured out how to get the boot selector to show on every Boot - so you can select your OS without holding down F8

1. Open terminal
2. copy paste this code:

sudo defaults write /Extra/com.apple.Boot "Quiet Boot" "No"

hit ENTER and it should ask for your password.(note) when typing password it will not show

3. copy paste this code:

sudo plutil -convert xml1 /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist

hit ENTER

4.type exit

close the terminal.app and reboot

Using GParted I see now this:

/dev/sda1 fat32 EFI ,200MB ,marked as boot

/dev/sda2 hfs+ MacHD, 141GB

/dev/sda3 ntfs WinXP, 7,73GB

And now? Marking sda2 as boot???

If I do this, I will just get the Windows XP rescue start menu.

1. Open terminal
2. copy paste this code:

I will try this, booting from my install hd, using the terminal to access the internal disk.

I followed your steps and generated the com.apple.Boot.plist... it is now on /Volumes/MacHD/Extra/

No change.

Then I set the second partition (with hfs+) active using this guide:
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index. ... opic=22844

Still no change. Just booting Windows... last idea, looking how to start bootcamp using the install-usbboot-hd and removing the windows partition again...

But I still hope for some more comments. :)

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.............

Connecting osx-usb-install-hd (+s10enabler), booting from this disk, pressing F8, selecting my INTERNAL MacOSX harddisk and now it works... device is booting again from internal osx hd.

But now I can not access Windows again. :)
