completely black keyboard...

Postby jimb0 » Fri Jan 16, 2009 2:10 am

has anyone tried to remove the letters from the keyboard buttons? usually people (well, people, let's say freaks;) do it when they've bought the device in another country and want to rearrange the keyboard layout: i know there are also websites selling sets of letters-stickers for this purpose.
in my case, i'm just interested on removing all of the letters (removing, not covering them with tape!), in order to obtain something like this:

yeah, darth vader would have been proud of that!

I've "removed" the markings on my alt and windows/menu keys by putting black electric tape over them. makes using OS X on it easier since I won't be confused by keys that don't correspond to the OS layout. looks pretty good as long as you cut the tape well enough to match the shape of the keys.

but since you don't want to do that... x-acto knife to scratch away the markings or using a sandpaper to sand down the markings would probably be your best bet. doubt you can take the lettering off without marring up the plastic keys to some extent.

I would use some really fine sandpaper, like up to 2000-3000 grit. Then you should end up with a nice matte surface, just without the letters.

And be sure to remove the keyboard, you don't want sanding dust in your computer. Also, post pics!

People started to post some weird stuff on this forum ;-)
Girls are like internet domain names, the ones I like are already taken. Well, you can still get one from a strange country :-)

I'm really thinking of getting a random black keyboard and doing this. Not on the S10 as I'm not totally used to the scandinavian layout on mine.

acetone.

It's harsh, but for me, it removed the lenovo, ideapad & S10 branding very nicely. I didn't try it on the keys yet since some are in odd spots, i'd forget where they are.

Cheers!

I have to reinforce scottyinco's warning. If you're going to try acetone i'd recommend diluting it with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) or even water.
